TWO BREWING AND BOTTLING PLANTS CONSOLIDATE.
________________________________________________
(From the "Hornellsville (N. Y.) Tribune,"16th ult.)
THE brewing industry, which is now known as the
Schwarzenbach Brewing Co., was established by Joseph
Schwarzenbach at Germania, Pa., in the year 1857.
In 1895 the three Schwarzenbach brothers, Kames E.
Schwarzenbach, Ronald Schwarzenbach and Herman
Schwarzenbach, who succeeded their late father in the
brewing business, erected a fine large plant at
Hornellsville, N. Y., and in 1901, on account of a
greatly increased business, and consequently a need of
better shipping facilities, abandoned the old Germania
plant and erected a very modern brewery at Galeton, Pa.
The Galeton plant has been equipped with the latest
improved apparatus for brewing, including glass enameled
steel storage tanks and cypress vats, with an annual
capacity of 35,000 barrels. The new bottling works in
connection with the Galeton brewery is a model
structure, having the most modern automatic machinery
for bottling the product of the brewery.
At the present time they are erecting at
Hornellsville, a large and modern, three story brick and
stone bottling works building that will be equipped with
the most modern appliances for bottling their beer, ale
and porter. A new and commodious office will be erected
this spring upon the land recently purchased by them, at
the corner of Canisteo and Franklin streets. The
interior of the present brewery will be remodeled so as
to give it an annual capacity of 36,000 barrels, the
surrounding grounds will be improved and when completed
will present a very pleasing and attractive feature to
the city of Hornellsville.
The Schwarzenbach Brewing Companies of Hornellsville,
N. Y., and Galeton, Pa., have spared no pains or money
in or der to give to the public a beer of rare and
superior quality, and the merits of their product have
won for them an enviable reputation as brewers of pure
lager beer.
While the Schwarzenbach Companies have for some time
owned bottling works in different towns, the steadily
increasing demand for their product has been so great
that it necessitated the establishment of many
additional distributing stations, which they have
located and are now arranging for throughout the states
of New York and Pennsylvania.
The plan of merging the two breweries under one
company has been under consideration for some time, and
at the annual meeting of the company, held March 20,
1905, the stockholders unanimously voted to consolidate
the two plants, Hornellsville, N. Y., and Galeton, Pa.,
and to increase the capital stock to $300,000, thus
enabling the new corporation to secure to the fullest
degree the most practical advantages possible to the
brewing industry.
The three Schwarzenbach brothers are men of rare
business qualifications, energetic, progressive and
thoroughly efficient in and masters of the brewing
business, in all of its departments. They are men who
take an individual interest and pride in local affairs,
and arc always awake to the best interests of the
community in which they reside.
The directors of the new corporation are men of
marked business ability, who hold enviable positions in
commercial life in Galeton and Hornellsville, and
possess the confidence and esteem of all with whom they
have. ever come in contact.
The management of the new corporation will be
conducted in practically the same manner as heretofore.
Mr. J. E. Schwarzenbach will be president of the new
corporation, with his office in Hornellsville, N. Y.
Mr. Roland Schwarzenbach, the vice-president, will be
manager of the Hornellsville brewery, while Messrs. A.
Bloodsworth and C. E. Yost will have charge of the sales
department and office management.
The Galeton plant will be in charge of Mr. Herman
Schwarzenbach, the treasurer of the company, while the
secretary, M. J. Handwerk, with Phillip Meine and Jos.
Breunig, will have supervision of the office and sales
department.
The officers and directors of the new corporation
will be as follows: Directors, J. E. Schwarzenbach,
president; Roland Schwarzenbach, vice-president: Herman
