HE FELL DEAD.

The sudden Death of Dr. Charles Brown-
Arrangements For the Funeral.

Dr. Charles Brown, the venerable pioneer of the bottled soda water business in Atlanta and the south, died suddenly from a stroke of paralysis this morning at the office of the Consolidated Bottling Works on Decatur street.
Dr. Brown took the 6 o'clock car for the bottling works, the company of which he is a stockholder and director.
He walked into the office bidding those there a good morning as usual.  He was talking to the bookkeeper and was standing in the doorway leading from the office to the storeroom, when without a word, a spasm of pain shot athwart his face and he fell, his feet lying in the doorway.  The doctors were hurriedly sent for, but Dr. Brown expired within seconds without speaking a word.
The deceased was 73 years of age.  Four years ago he suffered a similar stroke, but recovered gradually.  He has not been active at work since that time, however.  His friends, on account of his feebleness and old age, suspected that sooner or later he would suffer a second stroke, but the suddenness of his death this morning shocked them exceedingly.
Dr. Brown lived with his wife, who survives him, for an number of years at the corner of Luckie and Bartow streets, where he started a soda water business.  Subsequently he gave it up to join the new Consolidated Bottling Works.   This was four years ago.
He came to Atlanta in 1868 and opened a drug store on Alabama street in the store now occupied by Harry Spillman.  He conducted this apothecary for several years and then began the soda water business.  He was skilled in his vocation and understood its details perhaps better than any one in the city.
Dr. Brown was a charter member of the Atlanta Turn Verein, and was at one time of his death an ex-president of the society.  He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
The deceased held the love and esteem of all who knew him.  He was a straightforward and honorable gentleman and leaves an enviable record behind him.
The funeral will will take place Sunday morning at 10 o'clock under Odd Fellows ceremonies, and the interment will take place at Oakland cemetery.  The funeral arrangements are in the hands of Undertaker Patterson.
