NOTICE TO RETAILERS OF SODA WATER.  We, the Manufacturers of BOTTLED SODA WATER, having fully taken into consideration the continued increase in the price of several materials used in the manufacturing and carrying out of our business, which in most cases has raised from seventy-five to one-hundred percent, above the price of former times.  We would also refer to the exorbitant prices we are now compelled to pay for horses, corn, oats or hay, and provisions in general, and therefore obliged to pay higher for labor, but most especially mention the price of Sugar, which we have to use in large quantities, having to pay nearly one hundred per cent. higher within the past two years, with a prospect of still going higher.
We have struggled through those difficulties for the past two seasons, in hope of a return of moderate prices, but the present prospects just us in announcing to our customers that it is impossible for us to supply them any longer at the present prices, and respectfully notify them that on and after the first day of April, 1857, the price will be increased five cents per dozen to retailers.  Private consumers will be charged fifty cents per dozen.  We feel assured that this is a justifiable step.  Also, that every man in the business has, within his own knowledge, sufficient proof of hard times, which of necessity has produced this movement.  We might refer as justification, to like movements among business men of every branch-tradesmen, grocers, etc.-for months and years past.  We ask the favorable consideration of our customers to the above changes.  Our loss in bottles and boxes has been so great during the past two years, that we are compelled to enforce our old rules respecting them as follows:
That on and after the first day of April, 1857, we will require a full return of bottles and boxes from our customers, or payment for them, at fifty cents per dozen for bottles, and fifty cents for each box.
To which we respectfully annex our names.
